SPELLLING - The Turning Wheel - I am late to the party on SPELLLING but what a great place to join it: as a fan of intricate arrangements this is a fricking dream! As a bonus the lyrics have some real heft as well.
Red velvet curtains draw back to reveal a cosmic wheel of fortune, floating in the deep black star-studded theater of infinite space. A whirl of timbres, personalities, and stories. The Turning Wheel, the third full-length by the Bay Area artist SPELLLING (Chrystia Cabral), revolves around themes of human unity, the future, divine love and the enigmatic ups and downs of being a part of this carnival called life.

Venturing to push the boundaries of her primarily synth-based work, SPELLLING took on the ambitious task of orchestrating and self-producing an album that features an ensemble of 31 collaborating musicians. The Turning Wheel incorporates a vast range of rich acoustic sounds that cast SPELLLING’s work into vibrant new dimensions. The double LP is split into two halves — “Above” and “Below.” Lush string quartet shimmer combines with haunting banjo and wandering bassoon leads, as the album progresses from the more jubilant, warm, and dreamy mood of the “Above” tracks to the more chilling and gothic tone of the “Below” tracks. This progression is anchored by SPELLLING’s familiar bewitching vocal style that emphasizes the theatrical and folkloric heart of her songwriting.

sometimes i just want to laugh at how absurd everything is. like, jeff bezos has enough money to literally end the war in yemen. he could literally end it. nearly any celebrity in the world has the money to fix the flint water crisis. like there is a handful of rich people who, if they just put their money where their fucking mouths were, could solve so many problems. but they dont!!! they just buy another house, or a car, or a company where they don’t pay their workers fair wages so they can get richer. it’s just!!!!!!! sometimes i want to laugh bc it’s so absurd and this is why we say eat the rich.

Form a culture of resistance. Never talk to or cooperate with cops. Never snitch
Learn from (or work with!) ICE Rapid Response programs to put in place similar strategies against the feds. Know where they are and be ready to respond to and overwhelm them, and de-arrest your comrades
Carry a multitool or pair of plyers with you, and if you see a DHS vehicle, cut that valve stem!
There’s a lot to be learned from anti-ICE strategies, actually. I suggest reading about some of the tactics that movement has used

A lot of my suicidal feelings come from capitalism, but no one would take me seriously if I said this. Just knowing that because of my disabilities I am worthless to the market, and politicians could care less if I died without healthcare, makes me hate myself and my life.
I hope there’s a lot more attention brought to capitalism and suicide.
No matter how much you hate capitalism there’s a guilt that follows you about not fitting into it.

Sad update everyone, Tama recently passed away… An estimated 3,000 people, including railway officials, attended Tama the cat’s funeral on Sunday, days after she died of heart failure aged 16. [x]
For those who haven’t read articles about it, the local shrine elevated her to a god. She’s now the Eternal Stationmaster and patron god of the station.

Nitama, already now a mature cat (born 2010), has a protege named Yontama (fourth Tama, b. 2016). There is no information available for either the physical befellment or tragic self-disgrace which has removed Santama from contention.

okay but actually what happened to santama (or sun-tama-tama, which is her name because it’s a pun on santama) was that she was basically sent to train for the position in okayama and they liked her so much they refused to send her back
“Sun-tama-tama” (a pun off of “Santama”, lit. “third Tama”) was a calico cat sent for training in Okayama. Sun-tama-tama was considered as a candidate for Tama’s successor, but the Okayama Public Relations representative who had been caring for Sun-tama-tama refused to give the cat up writing, “I will not let go of this child, she will stay in Okayama.” ^[25]
As of September 2018, Sun-tama-tama is working as the stationmaster in Naka-ku, Okayama and appears occasionally on Tama’s Twitter account.

it’s kind of established that there is no “get out of a beatdown” role you can take other than being a cop yourself, right? media, medics, lawyers, all fair game.
Turns out that cops are just dudes who really like beating the shit out of defenceless people. There’s really no other qualification.
For those who hate lawyers I do want to point out that legal observers are sent by the National Lawyer’s Guild, which is the primary organization providing pro-bono legal defense to protesters and black community leaders who have been jailed to try to derail the movement. So, these are not the lawyers you hate.
Just to reiterate: the entire point of NLG legal observers is to deter unlawful or improper behavior on the part of the police / law enforcement personnel–and to document such behavior, if they aren’t successful in deterring it. In the U.S., they have to be trained and certified. Their job is to help you protest to the full extent of your constitutional rights and with minimal interaction with the criminal justice system. I cannot stress the extent to which they are on your side.
The National Lawyer’s Guild’s motto is “human rights over property interests” and was created as a direct fuck you to conservative and exclusionary bar associations. Their dues are way cheaper than other bar associations and you can join even as a jailhouse lawyer (a prisoner who teaches themselves the law to advocate for others).
And just because this is literally my job: your negative perception of lawyers is literally propaganda. The portrayal of defense attorneys as evil for defending criminals, the idea that suing people is something only rich or very greedy people do, the complete erasure of legal aid as a thing that exists, are all designed to make you afraid to advocate for your legal rights.

Who was it that taught us that the defense attorney - a person whose job is to ensure justice is done - is immoral and untrustworthy? Who taught us to hate lawyers - the people who know the law? Why do we believe that justice begins and ends with unregulated enforcers who are not required to know the law?

The prime minister defunded the rural fire service by about a third before fire season.
He’s ignored climate change reports from as far back as 2007 that estimated 2020 would have the worst bushfire season we had ever seen.
He tried to force a rural firefighter volunteer to shake his hand, after being rejected he said “oh he must have just been tired.”
The man had just lost his house while trying to save others houses.
This is a tiny portion of a long list of things that the Australian prime minister has done to hinder the rural fire service which has cost human lives, the lives of 500 million animals, peoples houses and properties, people’s livelihoods and over 5 million hectares of land and everything on it.
Scott Morrison can get fucked.
